A view of the Progreso pier and customs building from the Malecon. The famous pier extends out five miles into the Gulf to reach enough depth for shipping; that keeps ship traffic far away from the swimming areas of the beach.

These photos are taken at various points along Progreso’s beach. The house is located approximately 100 yards from the water’s edge.

As you can see, Progreso is primarily a fishing village and port, not a “tourist town.”
