You’ve heard of the famous Mayan cities of Chichen Itza, Uxmal and Tulum.  But there is a significant Mayan ruin right off the road between Progreso and Merida! The city of Dzibilchaltun is an important archaeological site, and has a unique surprise waiting for you.

This is the most important astronomical building at Dzibilchaltun; the view through the door aligns with the sun at the summer solstice.

It’s not a trip to a Mayan city unless you climb a pyramid!  But then, when you come down all hot and tired...

You get to take a swim in the cenote!  This clear, freshwater pool is fed by an underground river (as area ll the cenotes in the Yucatan). Use of the natural pool is free with your admission.
