We fell in love with the Yucatan capital city of Merida the first day we visited there.
The Centro is full of beautiful Colonial buildings, including the cathedral--the first one built in the Western Hemisphere.
Every Saturday evening, and all day Sunday, the downtown streets are closed to traffic. There are vendors and performers everywhere.
Stages are built on several downtown plazas, and performances go on all day!
Merida is located about a 25-minute drive from Progreso. This also the closest international airport.
